A Word on Our Data
Where it Comes from & What it all Means
Just before the 2014 Float Conference, we sent out two questionnaires to members of the float community. One targeting existing centers to see how they got started, what they’re doing now, and what challenges they faced. The other was for prospective centers, to get a sense of what their plans are and what we can expect for the growth of the industry.
This is only a sampling of float centers, not an exhaustive breakdown. In total, we received answers from 56 existing centers, and 156 prospective centers. From these we can get a good idea of what is happening in our industry, but of course there is a margin of error that will be present.
Our goal in the future is to get as close to 100% response to our questionnaires as we can. The results we collected in this first round are already going to be amazing for creating investor presentations, seeing how you compare to other centers, and demonstrating to friends and family that you’re (just possibly) not as crazy as they think you are.
More participants will only improve the data.
The graphs and numbers presented show only the basic answers to our survey questions. None of these have been controlled for or compared across multiple variables (such as funding sources broken down by size of center, or by location). With more time, and more overall submissions, we’d love to pursue deeper analysis.
Interested in Digging Deeper into the Data?
If you’re interested in doing your own analysis, and you’re willing to share your results with the community, we’ll happily open up the raw data for your use. We’ve created spreadsheets stripped of personal data, but with every other unique entry, so that you can dig deeper than we’ve gone in the following summary.
Suggestions for the Future
Our plan is to do an industry survey every 6-12 months. If there are questions you’d like to see added to the next survey (or ones you think should be reworded, or even eliminated altogether) definitely let us know! We are always trying to improve, and feedback is one of the quickest ways for us to accomplish that.
With that said… Please enjoy the 2014 State of the Float Industry Report!
